Nydia's PORTFOLIO
Hello! I'm Nydia del Carmen, a filmmaker, artist, and musician from Nicaragua, currently based in New Haven, Connecticut. I recently graduated from Yale University with a degree in Film and Media Studies. Beginning in Fall 2026, I will join the AFI Conservatory as a Directing Fellow. Thank you for taking the time to explore my work! :)
Artist statement
I believe in honest filmmaking: storytelling that resists any single, authoritative truth and invites the audience to become an active participant.
My film work spans live action, animation, and experimental media, exploring how different forms converse and collide with one another. I see film as a form of philosophy — not a way of providing answers, but of asking questions.
My work has screened internationally, including on Times Square billboards, at the Museo Archeologico di Venezia, on UK television, and in other festivals and exhibitions around the world. My practice also encompasses photography, video journalism, and music performance and composition.
Storytelling is my way of pursuing truth, listening, representing, and making meaning with others.
